Sloterparkbad, designed by Manon Peyrot, Amsterdam City Archives

Four ambitious architects worked on Amsterdam's General Expansion Plan, also known as the AUP: Jakoba Mulder, Annie van Hattem, Manon Peyrot and Koos Pot-Keegstra. How did four talented women experience working on this grand 1935 post-war expansion plan? How did they achieve their own ambitions within this huge plan? And how did they survive in a world dominated by men?

In this Van Eesteren Conversation, architectural historian Ellen van Kessel talks about architect Manon Peyrot, her life, how she stood her ground at the Department of Public Works and her most extraordinary designs, Sloterparkbad. Architectural historian Linda Vlassenrood talks about urban planner Jakoba Mulder, her influence on the city of Amsterdam, working in the countryside and her designs for children.

After the conversation, you can visit the exhibition Women of the AUP view, which highlights the four architects.

Women of the AUP

The exhibition Women of the AUP highlights the work of four architects who worked for the Municipality of Amsterdam Department of Public Works and contributed to the 1935 General Expansion Plan in Amsterdam (AUP). To date, the AUP has always been attributed to urban planner Cornelis van Eesteren and a team of male architects. However, this exhibition tells a different story.
