The Wonderkamer Theatre
On November 6, artist Arne Hendriks will start his project The Wonderkamer Theatre. Together with five other makers, he investigates the Dutch landscape of the future, balancing between the formal feasibility of urban planning and planning and the informal, spontaneous activities that help shape the landscape. Hendriks does this by means of six mini chamber theater theaters: physical small chamber theaters with a carefully designed façade at the front and a system of mechanical theater scenes at the back. The theaters are based on the historic chamber stage by Hieronymus Baron van Slingelandt (1762-1829), which is part of the collection of the Allard Pierson Museum and will be shown there parallel to our exhibition. The mini-theaters make it possible to create various new scenic scenes and perform them in front of an audience.
For six weeks, Hendriks invites a Dutch artist, designer or (landscape) architect every week to shape and present their own vision of the landscape of the future. Every week, this provides a different perspective and a new scene, which is discussed in a public conversation. Ultimately, this results in a range of visions of the future, which come together in a total performance and presentation on the last day of the exhibition.
