A Gradient Of Cars

With A Gradient of Cars, artist Bart Eysink Smeets playfully and accessibly demonstrates how integral the car has become to our daily lives. Five stacked cars, color-arranged like toy cars, form a monumental and slightly absurdist installation.

The artwork, located outdoors on the museum's terrace, aligns with Van Eesteren's annual theme: the car. It invites visitors to consider the role mobility plays in our city, our living environment, and our daily existence.

A Gradient of Cars was commissioned by Stichting NDSM-werf and co-funded by the Mondriaan Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. Its placement at the Van Eesteren Museum was made possible by the Amsterdam Nieuw-West District.
